Last time they met: The GIANTS and the Suns last met in round one of the 2020 NAB AFL Women’s competition. The match was played in torrid conditions at Blacktown International Sportspark, with the GIANTS taking the win by the narrowest of margins. The occasion marked the first-ever AFLW match for the Suns, with the Gold Coast-based side one of the expansion clubs of 2020. In what was a wet weekend, the GIANTS got the better of a hard-fought slog that saw just two goals kicked for the entirety of the match.
TV and Online: All AFLW matches are available live on Foxtel, Kayo, the AFLW Online site, AFL Telstra TV App and on the AFLW and AFL Official Apps. GIANTS matches are also broadcast live into NSW and the ACT free-to-air on 7mate.
What it means for the GIANTS: After a tough start to the year and season, the GIANTS will be thrilled at the fact they can host a sea of orange at Blacktown International Sportspark this Saturday. Coming off a 47-point loss to the Crows, the GIANTS will be searching for a much-needed win.
Where’s the opposition at: The Suns, too, are yet to get a win on the board so far this season. In their second year in the competition, the Suns currently sit in 13th position with a percentage of 30.6. They are coming off a 63-point loss to the Brisbane Lions in last week’s Q-Clash. They hadn’t hit the scoreboard at the main break and finished the match with just two behinds.
The number: 356. It’s been 356 days since the GIANTS last played at Blacktown International Sportspark with fans in the stand. That match was round three of 2020, on the 23rd of February when the GIANTS defeated the West Coast Eagles.
In the mix: Not available for the opening round due to an AFL Sydney two-match ban, draftee Libby Graham is available for selection to debut for the GIANTS and may be in the mix for this week’s round three mach. Annalyse Lister could too find herself available if she can complete a full training session on Wednesday following a minimum 12-day progression period in line with the new concussion protocols.
