With the GIANTS heading to Adelaide for a huge Sunday afternoon clash with Port Adelaide at the Adelaide Oval, we’ve done something different for the Round 18 edition of From the Archives.
We’re looking back at the GIANTS’ first ever win at the Adelaide Oval back in 2016 – coincidentally also in round 18.
Port Adelaide headed into the clash looking to keep their finals hope alive, while a win would see the GIANTS surge to second on the ladder.
In soggy conditions at the Adelaide Oval, the Power kept the GIANTS goalless in the opening term, with the GIANTS’ star-studded forward line of Jeremy Cameron, Jon Patton, Toby Greene and Rory Lobb unable to get near the footy.
Port Adelaide looked to be running away with the game as they kicked four goals to two during the second quarter, extending their lead to 20 points at the main break.
Brad Ebert ran riot in the second quarter kicking two goals including one after the half-time siren.
The third quarter began slowly as both sides battled to hit the scoreboard.
Then, in the 10th minute, the dam wall broke with Tom Scully starting a flurry of three GIANTS goals in three minutes as rain continued to tumble down.

Port hit back with Robbie Gray kicking his third goal for the night, but a late goal to Devon Smith put the GIANTS back in front by six points at the final break.
Dylan Shiel showed off his elite running capabilities to kick the first goal of the final term before Jeremy Cameron extended the GIANTS’ lead with his second goal of the evening four minutes later.
Ebert kicked his fourth goal to bring the margin back to 12 points, but a Devon Smith goal just moments later stretched the margin back out to three goals.
Another goal to Dylan Shiel made the margin 25 points and the
Jay Schulz pegged one back for Port Adelaide but the game was well and truly over, the GIANTS winning for the first time at the Adelaide Oval to the tune of 19 points.
Shiel received three Brownlow Medal votes for his 28 disposals, two goals, eight inside
Shane Mumford’s contribution was massive in the win, with the veteran winning 49
GIANTS coach Leon Cameron told reporters after the match that the match was ‘our best win for the year.’
