The United States Ambassador has gained an unique insight into Australian football - by sitting in the GIANTS' coaches box.
Jeffrey Bleich and his son joined Kevin Sheedy and the GIANTS coaching panel for the first quarter of Saturday's game against Melbourne at Manuka Oval in Canberra.
The game had a truly international flavour to it with representatives from the United Nations, USA, Chile, Serbia, Croatia and Switzerland all guests of the GIANTS, prompting Chairman Tony Shepherd to observe that it was “a bit like the UN".
Mr Bleich has become a fan of the game since he moved to Australia and attended last year’s AFL International Cup series.
GIANTS CEO David Matthews said the club was delighted to host representatives from overseas. "They all seemed to enjoy the game and I think recognise the unique role it has in Australian culture," he said.
