The GIANTS will return to Canberra this Saturday for the first time since their historic win against Gold Coast.

It will be the fourth time the AFL's newest club has played in the nation's capital and CEO David Matthews said the young GIANTS were looking forward to heading back to Manuka Oval to play Melbourne.

This year the GIANTS also played the Western Bulldogs for the inaugural Prime Minister's Cup, presented by Julia Gillard.

“Last time we played in Canberra was our club’s first ever win against the Gold Coast and I think that will stick out for a lot of people as the highlight of 2012. We have had some great experiences in the ACT in our first year including our win and our Australia Post Community Camp so it will be great to get back there,” Matthews said.

The club has a 10 year agreement with the ACT government to play three matches for premiership points and one pre-season clash each year.

With the 2013 AFL fixture currently being considered by the AFL, Matthews said the GIANTS were interested in continuing the tradition of playing the AFL’s newest rivalry at Manuka Oval.

“We aren’t sure what fixture requests we will submit to the AFL yet but it would be great to play the SUNS there again in 2013.

“We have built up a strong support network in the ACT with over 3,000 of our club’s members based there and it’s been fantastic to see so many of them at Manuka for our past three games.

“Hopefully that enthusiasm continues this weekend when we play Melbourne,” Matthews said.
