Over 150 children participated in a GWS GIANTS Junior AFL clinic in Yass on Friday with the NSW Minister for Sport and Recreation, Graham Annesley making a guest appearance.
GWS GIANTS players, Sam Schulz, Jacob Townsend and Adam Tomlinson attended the event, designed to promote the importance of participation in sport and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
GIANTS CEO, David Matthews said the clinic was a great initiative and that the GIANTS were advocates for participation in sport, no matter what the discipline.
"It's important for all children to live a healthy lifestyle and remain active. We hope by participating in the clinic, these values will remain instilled in the children, and hope they continue to participate in sport and recreation in whichever sport they choose," Matthews said.
Mr Annesley said the clinic was a great initiative because it got young people into the outdoors playing sport. “I congratulate the AFL and GWS Giants for encouraging youngsters to play sport, and I’m certain every person attending the clinic will become instant fans,” he said.
The Minister was joined by local member and Minister for Primary Industries, Katrina Hodgkinson, who said the region will benefit immensely from the GIANTS visit. "The visit of the GWS Giants will give a huge boost to AFL in Yass," she said.
