The Greater Western Sydney GIANTS have won a high scoring, fast paced clash against the NT Thunder at Blacktown today by 12 points.

The GIANTS have now defeated every side they have played in the NEAFL competition as they streak towards the club’s first ever final’s series with four wins in a row.

Melbourne based GIANT Tim Golds lined up for his first ever game in the orange and charcoal today and said that he was excited to get the call up after battling injury for the majority of 2011.

“Brett Hand gave me a call last Sunday to let me know that I was playing which was a very exciting phone call.

“It was a bit surreal to think that after watching us play all of these games that I would actually be running out there.”

The GIANTS came out firing with Jeremy Cameron kicking the side’s first goal in a best on ground performance. Northern Territory Thunder demonstrated why they are still on top of the Northern Conference NEAFL ladder, sticking with the young guns throughout the majority of the match and refusing to concede defeat.

Golds said that today’s win was an exciting milestone for the young side as they continue to improve in their preparations to enter the AFL in 2012.

“It’s a pretty big achievement for the team. We were beaten by the Thunder last time we played them so to come back and beat them today on our home ground is just awesome.

“They have players out this week but we’ve also got Steve Clifton out who is one of our senior players.”

Golds also commented that the GIANTS determination to win and continued pressure allowed them to run over the top of the impressive Thunder side.

“I thought that last time we weren’t as hard at the footy as we were today. We were more interested in ourselves than doing the team things like smothering, tackling and shepherding.

“We were really good at those things today. We seemed to put everyone else before ourselves,” he said.

Golds was one of twelve individual goal scorers for the GIANTS today and said that kicking his first goal in the orange and charcoal was a surreal experience.

“That was really, really exciting, I couldn’t believe it. When I kicked it I thought it would fade to the left but it held its line and went straight through.”

The GIANTS have just three games remaining for the NEAFL home and away season and will take on Queanbeyan, Gold Coast SUNS Reserves and Eastlake on the road to their first finals campaign.

“Hopefully I can get a run in the finals or at least come up here and have a look because it will be really exciting,” Golds said.
