Port Adelaide and Greater Western Sydney Giants and will tomorrow play for the Transfield Services Shield as part of the Toyota AFL Premiership Season. Tomorrow’s game will be the second battle for the shield but the first in South Australia.
The shield celebrates one of the fundamental values underpinned at Transfield Services, the passion shared by both clubs’ and their wider communities.
“I’m confident we will build a strong tradition with the Transfield Services Shield and it will become an annual showpiece raising awareness of the importance of diversity in the workplace and supporting local communities,” said Transfield Services General Manager South Australia and Northern Territory, Mark Duckett.
Transfield Services works closely with both the Power and Giants on a range of community initiatives. It partners with the Power on its annual Aboriginal Power Cup and is a support partner in its Power to End Hunger campaign with Foodbank.
Together with the AFL and Giants, Transfield Services invited 300-500 Primary School and High School students from 18 schools in NSW to attend and participate in their NAIDOC Gala Day at Blacktown International Sports Park.
Transfield Services was the first services company in Australia to put in place a Reconciliation Action Plan. As part of its updated plan to be launched later this month, it will be targeting employment of 1,000 Indigenous Australians by 2016.
