Three young GIANTS players are in contention to win the 2013 NAB AFL Rising Star award to be presented in Melbourne tomorrow
Midfielders Lachie Whitfield and Zac Williams and forward Adam Tomlinson have all been nominated this season for their outstanding form for the GIANTS.
Number one draft pick Lachie Whitfield played 19 matches in his debut season averaging 17 possessions a game and was rewarded with a NAB AFL Rising Star nomination for his performance against Carlton in round 10.
Adam Tomlinson was nominated for his round 17 performance against Essendon and played 17 games as a leading forward in his second AFL season.
Eighteen year old Zac Williams was elevated off the rookie list early in the season having coming through the Slater & Gordon GIANTS Academy.
Williams, from the NSW town of Narrandera, became the GIANTS third NAB AFL Rising Star nominee this season for his 21-possession performance in the Round 19 victory over Melbourne.
The three nominees in 2013 take the number of GIANTS nominated for the award to 11, with Jeremy Cameron, Tony Greene, Dylan Shiel, Adam Treloar, Tomas Bugg, Stephen Coniglio, Dom Tyson and Devon Smith all named last season.
Whitfield, Williams and Tomlinson face tough opposition in their quest to be the first GIANT to claim the award with Gold Coast’s Jager O’Meara clear favourite.
The 2013 NAB AFL Rising Star winner will be awarded the Ron Evans Medal and a $20,000 personal investment folio and a dedicated personal banker, courtesy of NAB.
The 2013 NAB AFL Rising Star function will be shown on Fox Footy at 9pm on Wednesday September 4.
