Greater Western Sydney GIANT Matt Buntine has been released from hospital after the defender suffered a partially collapsed lung in round 1 of the NAB Cup.
Buntine left the field early in the GIANTS’ match against Carlton on Sunday and was taken to Blacktown hospital.
The 19 year old was then transferred to Westmead hospital where he continued his recovery.
The injury occurred when he collided with Blues ruckman Levi Casboult, a friend of Buntine’s from their Dandenong Stingrays days.
“He inboxed me on Facebook and empathised with me and apologised,” Buntine said.
“He hoped I was doing well.”
Buntine is expected to miss up to eight weeks of football and has thanked GIANTS fans for their support.
“Thanks for all your well wishes, I'm recovering pretty well now and should be out of hospital in no time and off to see the boys out on the track soon."
Buntine's parents Wendy and Lewis have returned to Victoria today after spending the week with their son.
