The Greater Western Sydney GIANTS are closing in on 10,000 members after signing up another 168 recruits at the club's 2013 Fan Day.
Currently, the GIANTS have 9,752 members with their first NAB Cup clash in Blacktown just around the corner. The GIANTS lead the Gold Coast SUNS by 1,174 members with their tally currently sitting on 8,551.
Head Coach Kevin Sheedy laid down the challenge to the Suns last month to see which club could be the first to top 10,000 members and SUNS coach Guy McKenna gladly accepted.
The losing coach will have to wear the other club's coloured budgie smugglers on their local beach.
GIANTS CEO David Matthews thanked those members who have joined the club in 2013 and urged others to do the same.
"We signed up more than 10,000 members in our inaugural season and we are on target to top that in 2013," Matthews said.
"It was great to see hundreds of supporters and plenty of orange out at our Fan Day over the weekend and that resulted in another spike in our membership.
"With the season just around the corner and an exciting future ahead of us, now is a great time to join our club."
