The Greater Western Sydney GIANTS will unveil four new faces in the opening round of the NAB Cup at Blacktown International Sportspark this weekend.

The GIANTS have selected a strong squad of 34 players to take on Carlton and the Sydney Swans from 4.40pm on Sunday.

Three players taken by the GIANTS in the 2012 NAB AFL Draft will make their debut, with number one pick Lachie Whitfield, third selection Lachie Plowman and pick number 14 Aidan Corr all named.

Stephen Gilham will also pull on a GIANTS jumper for the first time since crossing from Hawthorn over the summer.

After only playing one match for the GIANTS last season, Setanta O’hAilpin has been selected in the squad of 34 having overcome a knee reconstruction.

Co-captain Callan Ward will miss the opening round NAB Cup matches due to a minor knee injury.

Chad Cornes and Dom Tyson were also unavailable for selection due to long term knee injuries.

Head Coach Kevin Sheedy says it’s an excitement weekend for everyone involved with the GIANTS.

“Most of the new boys are going to be lining up and that’s great for our supporters to come and have a look at Lachie Whitfield, Lachie Plowman, Aidan Corr and those sorts of boys.

“Mick Malthouse is coming back for Carlton and he’s going to want to have a terrific start against the baby GIANTS.

“Unfortunately Callan Ward is out injured but he won’t be out for much more than a week.

“The players are fresh and I think it’s about time they say we want everyone to know that we learnt a lot last year and we must play well in our first matches of 2013 in Blacktown.”
