What’s in store for 2013:
After being selected with the number one pick in the 2013 NAB AFL Draft, Whitfield has impressed his coaches and team mates with his decision making and pace during his pre-season campaign.

The midfielder made his debut in the first round of the 2013 NAB Cup against Carlton and also lined up in the GIANTS game against the Brisbane Lions and practice match against St Kilda.

With a solid pre-season under his belt, GIANTS fans can expect to see Whitfield make his senior AFL debut in the coming weeks.

What the coach had to say:

Brett Hand, Development Coach
"We want to see our first year players adjust to the rigours and demands of AFL life. The younger players need to get used to training seven days a week and looking after their bodies.

"For us, it's important that they can play as many games as they can. That will be determined by our sports science department but hopefully they're fit, firing and playing some good footy to get some spots in the ones.

"He's one of the smarter footballers we've seen. His running patterns are very good and his speed down the wing and his use of the footy is sublime.

"We're looking forward to seeing him get some open space and playing some good, senior footy.
"I think he'll play quite a few games this year and have an impact on the competition."

What Whitfield had to say:

"This year I want to play as many games as possible and get as much experience playing with and against experienced players and bigger bodies.

"I want to improve my kicking initially but also my contested ball because of my body size I need to work on that."
