The Greater Western Sydney GIANTS face a selection dilemma for Saturday’s Battle of the Bridge against the Sydney Swans with a close to full strength list to choose from.
With a number of new players vying for spots, positions in the season opener will be at a premium.
While Dom Tyson, Chad Cornes and Matt Buntine are still unavailable due to injury, draftees Lachie Whitfield, Lachie Plowman and Aidan Corr have all impressed in the NAB Cup.
Head Coach Kevin Sheedy has flagged that all three in contention for selection early in the season, as are Stephen Gilham and Bret Thornton who’ve joined the club from Hawthorn and Carlton respectively.
If Gilham is selected to make his GIANTS debut, it’ll be his 100th AFL game, adding to his one match at Port Adelaide and 98 matches for the Hawks.
Several players stood out in the UWS GIANTS final NEAFL match of the pre-season with Rhys Palmer’s five-goal effort leading the way.
Setanta O’hAilpin, Anthony Miles and Nathan Wilson also performed strongly against Sydney Uni and are pushing for selection against the Swans.
The Battle of the Bridge is at 4.40pm on Saturday, 30th March at ANZ Stadium. Tickets available at ticketek.com.au/giants
