The Greater Western Sydney Giants and Sydney Swans will go head-to-head for the White Ribbon Cup at ANZ Stadium on Saturday, March 30, kicking off the 2013 AFL season with the official launch of Battle of the Bridge.

The newly named Sydney Derby announced today at NSW Parliament House, Battle of the Bridge is the brainchild of Giants Head Coach, Kevin Sheedy.

“Anzac Bridge is an iconic Sydney landmark that joins the city's east and west and is a perfect symbol for this game between the Swans and the Giants,” Mr Sheedy said.

“East versus west. The champion versus the challenger. Which side are you on?”

No matter the side, the teams are united in support of White Ribbon; Australia’s only national, male-led primary prevention campaign to end violence against women.

The winner will be presented with the White Ribbon Cup by White Ribbon Ambassador, Australian media personality, comedian and writer, Mikey Robins of Good News Week fame. Mr Robins will also make an appearance at half-time.

White Ribbon Australia CEO, Libby Davies thanked the AFL for being a longstanding supporter and partner of the organisation.

“Their commitment has been and continues to be demonstrated by the many AFL managers and players who have signed up to our Ambassador Program, and is also reflected through the AFL’s own respect and responsibility programs,” Ms Davies said.

“Don’t stay silent about violence. As fans you can also get behind your team and show your support by purchasing a white ribbon for $2 from one of our friendly staff or volunteers who will be on-site before, during and after the game.”

The game will commence at 4.40pm and be televised live on Fox Footy. Tickets are still available for purchase at www.ticketek.com.au, where a white ribbon add-on is also available.
