There's no substitute for hard work.
That's the message from GIANTS Head Coach Leon Cameron as the club embarks on its second training camp on the Sunshine Coast in as many years.
Players will be put to the test during what promises to be an intensive week of training in the lead-up to Christmas.
And Cameron makes no apologies as the club prepares for a big 2015.
"We're here to test them mentally in this last part of the pre-season," he says.
"It will be interesting to see how they last these next three or four days when they are really mentally fatigued."
Last year was the club's first visit to the Sunshine Coast and first training camp since it formed in 2011.
The hard work done in the off-season paid dividends with the GIANTS enjoying their best season so far with six wins and a number of narrow losses including against top sides Hawthorn, Geelong and Essendon.
Cameron says the purpose of this year's camp is two fold.
"We've got to get the work into our boys. It's great training in the heat. We feel as though its great mentally absorbing the heat whilst pounding out the kilometres.
"Secondly, there's no doubt when you are spending that much time together with each other there's a sense of bonding.
"Last year we walked away from our first camp in Noosa feeling we achieved everything we wanted and it was really a no brainier to come back here again."
Players are doing skills sessions at Noosa Tigers Football Club as well as a mix of beach and other training including running, weights and boxing.
Cameron says there's already been a noticeable increase in intensity from last year's pre-season campaign.
"It's clearly harder. We've covered more kilometres and we're lifting more."
The GIANTS will break for Christmas at the end of this week and resume pre-season training on January 5. Players will all be given a program to ensure they stay in shape over the Christmas break.
The GIANTS will kick off their NAB Challenge campaign against the Gold Coast Suns at Blacktown International Sportspark on March 7.
They meet St Kilda in the opening round of the AFL Premiership season at Etihad Stadium on April 5.
