The GIANTS and Lifeline Canberra are pleased to launch a community partnership to promote the benefits of sport and physical activity in the region.

The launch of the partnership will take place at the GIANTS first home game of the year, their pre-season NAB Challenge match, at Star Track Oval on Thursday, 20 February against the Sydney Swans.

Lifeline Canberra CEO, Mike Zissler said, “We are excited to be joining with the GIANTS to work towards a deeper engagement with the Canberra community and its wider region.”

“This partnership is a unique opportunity that will raise awareness of the importance of not only Lifeline’s 13 11 14 telephone crisis support services, but the benefits of sport and physical activity.”

“We encourage the ACT community to get along to the GIANTS fixtures this year and look forward to working with them in promoting AFL in the region, contributing to a healthy, positive and balanced lifestyle,” said Zissler.

Mr David Matthews, GIANTS CEO, said, “The GIANTS are proud to be joining forces with Lifeline Canberra.  Like Lifeline, the GIANTS feel a strong commitment to the community and it is those shared values that will ensure and encourage the success of this partnership.”

“The GIANTS are committed to the ACT and with the support of a reputable, community focused organisation like Lifeline, we hope to make a positive difference to the lives of individuals throughout the region,” said Matthews.

Dr Brendan Nelson, Patron of Lifeline Canberra and his guest, Mr Gary ‘Angry’ Anderson, Lifeline Canberra Ambassador, will join Mr Zissler as guests of the GIANTS at their pre-game function.

“The key to holistic health is to actively maintain both your physical and mental health. Partnerships such as this, which promote both these aspects, are so beneficial for local communities. It is great to see the GIANTS and Lifeline team up to enhance this awareness in the Canberra region,” said Dr Nelson.

Prior to the match, Angry Anderson, will attend the Last Post Ceremony at the Australian War Memorial from 4:50pm. Together, he and Dr. Nelson will lay a wreath.

At the match, Lifeline will be raising funds and promoting their upcoming Autumn Bookfair, which will take place Friday, 28 March, through to Sunday, 30 March, at Exhibition Park in Canberra.
