The Greater Western Sydney GIANTS have further strengthened their playing list for 2015, securing three of the top 10 picks at the NAB AFL Draft on the Gold Coast tonight.

The GIANTS selected exciting forward Jarrod Pickett (pick 4), defender Caleb Marchbank (pick 6) and midfielder Paul Ahern (pick 7)

The GIANTS also selected former Australian Under-19 cricket captain Patrick McKenna with pick 23.

Jarrod Pickett, 18, is a small forward/midfielder from South Fremantle/ Jandakot JFC in Western Australia. He has electrifying pace, smart around goals and is related to former North Melbourne and Port Adelaide premiership player Byron Pickett and former Collingwood star Leon Davis.

Caleb Marchbank is an 17-year old mobile tall defender from the Murray Bushrangers/ Benalla Saints. His performance for Vic Country in the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships saw him named in the All-Australian side.

Paul Ahern is an 18-year old midfelder from the Calder Cannons/Keilor with excellent balance and running capacity. He was selected in the NAB AFL Under-18 All-Australian team after a standout performance in the national carnival.

Patrick McKenna is an 18-year old forward from Gisborne in Victoria who captained the Australian Under 19 team on its recent tour of Sri Lanka. He kicked 16 goals in an under-18s match for Gisborne earlier this year.

PM CAPITAL GIANTS Academy players Jack Steele (pick 24) and Jeremy Finlayson (pick 85) both officially joined the GIANTS tonight following last month’s NAB AFL Academy Players Bidding Meeting.

GIANTS General Manager Football Graeme Allan said the club was delighted to secure some of the finest young talent in Australia.

"Tonight caps off a very productive off season for the GIANTS. We secured experienced players during the Trade Period in Ryan Griffen and Joel Patfull and now we have complemented that with an exciting mix of young players in this draft," he said.

GIANTS chief executive David Matthews welcomed the new draftees to the club and wished them every success for their careers.

“Tonight these young men have realised their ambition to be drafted by an AFL club. The GIANTS will now do everything we can to support, develop and help them take the next step and achieve their dream to play AFL football,” he said.

“With our first class training and administration headquarters at Sydney Olympic Park and the strong culture we've developed at the club, we’re confident they will settle well into the GIANTS and enjoy long and successful careers here.

“I also want to acknowledge all the junior clubs and coaches who have helped develop these young players and the AFL for the talent pathway it has helped create.

“A big thank you also to the parents and families of these young men who have given so much of their time to help them get to where they are today. We trust they also enjoy this special moment."
