Hundreds of Western Sydney students have put on a skilful display at the Bachar Houli Cup in Auburn.
13 Islamic and public schools gathered at Progress Park, Auburn for the the third year of the competition which keeps getting bigger every year.
While over 250 high school students took part in the day, Granville Boys High School were the winners, defeating last year’s champions Unity Grammar in the final.
GIANTS midfielder and Australia Post AFL Multicultural Ambassador Stephen Coniglio said he loves attending the Bachar Houli Cup every year.
“It’s fantastic to see so many teenagers getting involved with AFL in Western Sydney,” said Coniglio.
“These guys come from so many different backgrounds and that’s one of the best things about our game - it’s a game that everyone can play no matter where you’re from or what size you are.
“There were some really impressive performances by all teams and plenty of players with a lot of talent.
“Some of these guys have grown up playing soccer or rugby league and showed a lot of skill with the sherrin.
“Lets hope they stay active in whatever sport they pursue and keep following the GIANTS for many years to come.”
The Bachar Houli Cup started in Victoria in 2012 and has since grown into an annual event that attracts more than 5000 players across Australia.
