Greater Western Sydney GIANTS co-captain Phil Davis has been named in the GIANTS squad to play the Sydney Swans in Sydney Derby IV on Sunday at the SCG.

Davis has played the last two matches for the UWS GIANTS in the NEAFL after being sidelined with a back injury since round five.

The GIANTS have included eight players in the squad of 25 to take on the Swans with Sam Darley, Tomas Bugg, Shaun Edwards, Dom Tyson, Jono O’Rourke and Gerald Ugle all included.

O’Rourke, the number two pick in the 2012 draft, has been named on an extended interchange bench, and could make his AFL debut.

Midfielder Dom Tyson has also been named in the squad for the first time this season having undergone pre-season knee surgery.

Stephen Coniglio is ruled out with a hamstring injury while a one week suspension will see Taylor Adams miss the match.

Adam Tomlinson, Jacob Townsend and Adam Kennedy have been omitted.

GIANTS Head Coach Kevin Sheedy says it’s a big challenge for his young team to take on the reigning premiers at their home ground.

“It’s our first ever game at the SCG which is going to be pretty exciting for these players,” said Sheedy.

“It’s a very different ground with not a lot of length in it but from our point of view, we’ll be giving it our very best.

“We were very unlucky last week (against the Bulldogs). We had our chances in the last 2 or 3 minutes to get that win on the board, we didn’t and now we focus on the Swans,” he said.

The GIANTS play the Sydney Swans as part of AFL Multicultural Round. The two teams are playing for the White Ribbon Cup, which aims to raise awareness of White Ribbon; Australia’s only national, male-led campaign to stop violence against women.
