When the GIANTS head out on to Spotless Stadium to take on the Tigers, defender Aidan Corr will have more than his opponent on his mind.
Corr will be keeping an eye out for good mate and Richmond forward Ben Lennon as the two sides clash on Saturday afternoon.
Although a year apart in age, Corr and Lennon became close friends when they played together at Macleod Junior Football Club in Melbourne’s north-east.
“I played footy with Ben in Under-10s at my local junior footy club so I’ve known Ben a long time,” Corr said.
“We’ve always played footy together growing up, unfortunately he wasn’t allowed to play in my team for most of my junior career because he wasn’t allowed to come up but I’ve been pretty close mates with him and we played together at the Northern Knights.”
Corr arrived at the GIANTS with pick 14 in the 2012 NAB AFL Draft and with the club holding the same pick the following year, Corr was hoping his friend would join him in the charcoal and orange.
Instead, Lennon was snapped up by the Tigers with pick 12 and made his debut as the substitute last weekend, kicking two goals in their loss to Melbourne.
“He snuck a few which was good to see, he’s always been a bit of a goal sneak and very creative around goals,” Corr said.
“I was hoping he’d sneak another two picks and come to us but I was pretty excited for him.
“He’s a good kid so it was good to see him have his dreams come true too.”
With Corr taking his place in the backline and Lennon expected to line up in the forward line, the 20-year-old said he’d be looking for his friend out on the field for a bit of friendly rivalry.
“I can’t wait, to give him a couple would be good,” Corr said.
“I’m sure I’ll end up on him at some point ... I’ll make sure I end up on him.”
