The GIANTS are throwing their support behind a family event being held across the ACT this weekend, the Great Backyard Campout.
It’s important that we all adhere to the advice of the Government and medical authorities to remain at home at the moment, however this event is the perfect way to bring nature, adventure and family together during this difficult time.
Plenty of GIANTS players love being in the outdoors whenever they don’t have football commitments and fishing and camping are some of the favourite hobbies of a number of our AFL and AFLW stars including Jeremy Cameron, Nicola Barr, Aidan Corr, Harry Perryman, Rebecca Privitelli and Harry Himmelberg and Matt Flynn.
Families are encourage to transform their homes and backyard into campsites this Saturday, April 18.
It’s a great way to increase your children’s exposure to the outdoors and nature during the COVID-19 pandemic.
If you’ve got room in your backyard, it’s the perfect time to pitch a tent and have all the fun that you might usually have if you were out and exploring the natural beauty of the region.
There’s plenty of fun you can have:
- make a campfire
- have a shadow puppet show with a flashlight
- go stargazing
- design an outdoor scavenger hunt
- read camping themed books
- enjoy some delicious snack like campfire toasted marshmallows
- and boil a billy to enjoy a hot chocolate
