Young GIANTS forward, Jeremy Cameron has been nominated for the 2012 NAB AFL Rising Star Award after booting four goals in just his second AFL game.
In an impressive personal performance, Cameron took seven marks and kicked four goals against the Kangaroos in Hobart to become the GIANTS’ first multiple goal kicker in the AFL.
Hailing from the small community of Dartmoor in Victoria’s west, the 194cm 19-year-old was selected by the GIANTS as a pre-listed 17-year-old in 2010 and relocated to Sydney last year to play for the club’s NEAFL side.
Cameron said that he was thrilled by the nomination and was looking forward to taking on the West Coast Eagles in Blacktown on Sunday.
“This is really exciting for me. There are a lot of terrific young players in the AFL so to receive a nomination is a great honor.”
GIANTS Head Coach Kevin Sheedy said that he was impressed with Cameron’s performance on the weekend, particularly his three goal third quarter.
“For a young man playing just his second AFL game, Jeremy showed not just tremendous skill but also maturity.
“His effort in the third quarter when he kicked three goals was particularly impressive and demonstrated he has what it takes to succeed at the elite level.”
