On International Women’s Day, there is no one in a better position than Amanda Farrugia to speak about the positive impact of sport and equality.
Following the GIANTS’ maiden AFLW victory over Melbourne, the GIANTS are proud to release the latest instalment of the club’s brand campaign – There’s a GIANT in all of us.
This edition features the club’s inaugural AFL Women’s captain – Amanda Farrugia.
Farrugia epitomises the GIANTS mantra of ‘There’s a GIANT in all of us’ – leading the club on field but also acting as a source of inspiration for her PE students that she teaches at Our Lady of Mercy College, Parramatta.
“There is an opportunity for me to spread a bit of a message out there to young girls to say that there is nothing that you could ever want to do that you can’t do because of the gender you were born with,” she said.
“Finally it’s time for all girls to be just as equal as all boys.
“When we’ve got so many people believing in the quality of this League and what is all means. We don’t want to back down and we want to be as physical as we can.
“To an extent, we’ve got to prove to people we can be.
“We know we can be, we’ve just got to prove it. And I don’t mind proving things to people and proving people wrong.”
The GIANTS launched There’s a GIANT in all of us at the beginning of the 2016 season with feature videos of Jeremy Cameron, Zac Williams and Rory Lobb. In 2017 the GIANTS will release six new videos incorporating all three of the club’s teams – AFL, AFL Women’s and GIANTS Netball.
