The GIANTS have today congratulated former Board member and current AFL Commissioner Gabrielle Trainor on being named an Officer of the Order of Australia in the Queen’s Birthday honours list announced this morning.
Ms Trainor, who was an inaugural GIANTS Board member before joining the AFL Commission in 2016, was awarded for “distinguished service to the community through consultancy roles, particularly in the field of transport and infrastructure planning and design, and as a contributor to social welfare, sporting and cultural institutions."
GIANTS Chairman, Tony Shepherd, said today's award was fitting recognition for Ms Trainor's continued work across a variety of areas in the community.
"This is indeed fitting recognition for the incredible work Gabrielle continues to do in the community," Mr Shepherd said.
"To be honoured across such a wide range of areas is testament to Gab's tireless commitment to others. We are proud and fortunate to have Gab so closely involved in our club and indeed our industry.
"At the heart of everything Gab does is an incredible capacity to help and lead others with unparalleled compassion and acumen.
"On behalf of everyone at the Giants we congratulate Gab on this outstanding acknowledgment."
GIANTS Chief Executive Officer, David Matthews, highlighted Ms Trainor's contribution to the broader community.
"For anyone who knows Gab and the impact she has had on so many people across all walks of life, this award will come as no surprise," Mr Matthews said.
"Gab's civic contribution spans such a diverse range of fields, from prominent community infrastructure projects to leading vitally important social welfare programs via Australian Football and many other platforms.
"Gab's influence on the GIANTS is typical of the impact she's had on so many other organisations around Australia and underlines why she is so deserving of this award."
Ms Trainor was an inaugural GIANTS board member as well as a member of the Team GWS advisory committee before joining the AFL Commission in March last year.
During her tenure at the GIANTS, Ms Trainor chaired the club’s integrity committee, was a member of the Giants Foundation and provided guidance on significant commercial projects including the establishment of the $12 million Training and Administration base at Sydney Olympic Park.
Earlier this year the GIANTS announced that the club’s AFL Women’s Club Champion award would be named the Gabrielle Trainor Medal.
