The GIANTS will wear orange boot laces against Carlton on Saturday afternoon as part of the Step Back Think campaign to raise awareness of the causes and consequences of social violence.

Social violence is interpersonal physical violence that occurs in a community setting such as one-punch assaults and fights on the sporting field.

Through education, research and awareness, Step Back Think is working to eradicate social violence where a split second, a bad decision, and a single act can irreversibly damage countless lives.

The GIANTS will don orange Step Back Think laces during play this weekend, joining 40,000 others Australia-wide showing their commitment to ending social violence and honouring the nine Australian lives already cut-short by social violence this year.

You can join them by getting your free orange laces at selected spaces around the ground, or by donating to the SMS number displayed on LED screens during the game.

Help the GIANTS and Step Back Think drive cultural change to end social violence.

The highest amount of incidents occur among males aged 15-29 and GIANTS midfielder Tom Scully said it was important to highlight the seriousness of the issue.

“We see too many incidents of social violence in Australia where lives are ruined in a split second," he said.

“As AFL players, we know violence during the game isn’t tolerated and this is no different off the football field.

“The GIANTS are right behind this campaign as we try to stamp out violence that affects the whole community.”
