Greater Western Sydney GIANTS Chief Executive David Matthews said the inclusion of Sydney Olympic Park as part of a proposed western Sydney light rail network would be a great outcome for the broader Western Sydney community.
As Vice-President of the Western Sydney Business Chamber, Matthews said a link to Sydney Olympic Park – site of the GIANTS’ Life Learning Centre and home ground Spotless Stadium – would create a myriad of opportunities for the people in Sydney’s west.
“As well as significantly improving public access to events in the Sydney Olympic Park precinct, including GIANTS home games at Spotless Stadium, the broader economic, employment and infrastructure benefits to the Western Sydney community are clear,” Matthews said.
“This is about more than just sport. More jobs, more affordable housing, better public services, a stronger local economy and significantly enhanced infrastructure are just some of the potential benefits from a project of this nature.
“Since inception, the GIANTS have maintained a core focus on delivering real social outcomes across the community.
“Programs such as GIANTS Care which was launched last month, provides the vehicle to help deliver on the four key pillars of the club’s community agenda of Health, Harmony, Education and Employment.
“We are supportive of anything that positively impacts the wider Western Sydney community and given the potential to spark a raft of economic activity; this project would certainly achieve that objective.”
The GIANTS next play at Spotless Stadium at Sydney Olympic Park against North Melbourne on Saturday 20th June at 4.35pm.
