Think you have what it takes to play in the AFL?
We’re searching for young talented athletes based in Western Sydney who would like to challenge themselves in the world’s most demanding sport - Australian Rules Football.
The GIANTS are hosting a number of talent identification programs to discover and nurture the next crop of PM CAPITAL GIANTS Academy stars.
There’s no skill prerequisites to take part in the testing program and a background in football isn’t necessary.
The sessions will be run by PM CAPITAL GIANTS Academy High Performance and Talent Identification Manager John Quinn.
Quinn was formerly Head of High Performance at the GWS GIANTS and was also the sprints/relay coach for Australia at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.
“It won’t only be a skill and fitness testing program,” Quinn said.
“We will examine their aptitude and mindset and make recruitment decisions based on their potential.
“We’re targeting kids who aren’t necessarily in the football system at the moment but might have enough talent to excel at the highest level.
“I have absolutely no doubt that there are young people currently living in Western Sydney who have the ability to play in the AFL.
“I’m not talking about one or two kids, I’m talking about dozens. It’s my job to try and find them.”
GIANTS forward and Western Sydney local Dylan Addison said these sessions were a great opportunity for aspiring young footballers.
“There’s absolutely nothing to lose by coming out and having a crack ,” Addison said.
“Hopefully there’s a number of kids who have what it takes and will be invited to train with the PM CAPITAL GIANTS Academy.
“I wish there was an Academy program around when I was growing up because it’s a great pathway into the AFL."
Addison grew up playing football for the Bankstown Bombers and attended school at St Gregory’s in Campbelltown.
The sessions are free to attend and will assess speed, agility and jump performance using state of the art testing methods.
There will also be a skill session run by PM CAPITAL GIANTS Academy head coach Jason Saddington and a meal will be provided for all participants.
In addition there will be several education seminars and everyone who attends will also receive a certificate upon completion.
Parents and interested observers are also welcome to attend the sessions.
The program is limited to athletes born (including and between) 1998-2001.
