The Greater Western Sydney GIANTS have secured Collingwood’s 2015 first and fourth round draft selections (currently picks 7 and 65) as well as the Magpies' 2016 future first-round pick in exchange for midfielder Adam Treloar and a second-round pick acquired from Carlton (currently pick 28).
After acquiring Collingwood’s current and future first-round picks, the GIANTS now hold one first-round pick in this year’s NAB AFL draft as well as three first-round picks and two second-round picks in the 2016 NAB AFL Draft after trades with Carlton and Adelaide.
“We were always looking to maximise the level of compensation for Adam and by receiving two first round draft selections we’ve well and truly achieved that,” said GIANTS General Manager Football Graeme Allan.
“First round selections are obviously highly sought after so to receive two as part of this trade is an outstanding result for our club.
“Negotiating a trade like this can take time but as a result we’re pleased to have secured the best possible outcome for the GIANTS.
“These first round picks are significant when it comes to our draft strategy this year and in 2016. They put us in a strong position to further enhance our playing list by bringing in high quality players over the next two draft and trade periods.”
The deal with Collingwood follows a trade with Carlton that saw the GIANTS swap their 2015 first-round pick (currently pick 8) for a future first-round pick in the 2016 NAB AFL Draft, received by the Blues from Geelong in exchange for Lachie Henderson.
The GIANTS also secured Carlton’s 2015 second-round draft selection (currently pick 28) as well as fifth and sixth round selections (currently pick 77 and 95) as a result of a trade that saw the Blues receive Lachie Plowman, Andrew Phillips, Jed Lamb and Liam Sumner.
During the 2015 trade period the GIANTS have signed former Geelong Cats Steve Johnson and Dawson Simpson and currently hold picks 7, 27, 48, 65, 66, 70, 77, 84, 95 and 102 at next month’s NAB AFL Draft as well as three future first-round picks and two future second-round picks in the 2016 NAB AFL Draft.
