The GIANTS have named an unchanged line-up for the first time in club history as they prepare to face Carlton at Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Coach Leon Cameron has stuck with the same 22 that upset reigning premiers Hawthorn by 10 points at Spotless Stadium last weekend.
“We thought that the contribution from all 22 was where we wanted it to be,” Cameron said.
“In saying that there’s been some really good performances in our NEAFL - Josh Kelly played some good footy, Curtly Hampton played some great footy, Jed Lamb, Jack Steele.
“But when the boys performed to that sort of level against the Hawks last week it’s hard to make a change.”
In their 72 games in the AFL the GIANTS have never gone into a game with the same 22 as the previous week. Eight times they’ve named 21 of the same players with four of those times this season.
Cameron said it was great to have stability in the side.
“It helps your team because it helps the synergy and connection between the backs and the mids and the forwards as well,” he said.
“It’s frustrating for some of the guys trying to push into the team but also puts pressure on the AFL guys to make sure they maintain the standard.”
The sixth-placed GIANTS will be aiming to win their third straight game at Etihad Stadium after victories over the Western Bulldogs (round 23, 2014) and St Kilda (round one, 2015) at the venue.
When the two sides met in Sydney last year, the GIANTS took the honours by eight-points. But Cameron is wary of a Carlton outfit hungry to get back on the winners’ list.
“There’s no doubt Carlton are going to be very keen to bounce back from last week so we’ve just got to bring our best foot forward,” he said.
“The Blues are going to be really tough to beat, it’s a 50-50 game. All we can do is worry about what we can do and that’s play good, competitive footy for 120 minutes.”
The game will be broadcast live on Fox Footy and 7mate across NSW and the ACT. Follow the GIANTS on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram @GWSGIANTS for regular updates.
