A zippy Kangaroo is the only thing stopping Heath Shaw from becoming the AFL’s greatest ever bouncer.

Shaw, who led the league for running bounces this season with 92, is now second on the overall tally behind veteran Brent “Boomer” Harvey. But he’s catching up and catching up fast.

To this point in his career the GIANTS defender has bounced the ball 737 times, trailing the North Melbourne small forward on 997.

Shaw has the best average of bounces per game (3.5) but needs to catch up another 260 before he can claim the prestigious overall honour.

Astonishingly this wasn’t even Shaw’s best bouncing season. In 2009 - then playing for Collingwood - Shaw clocked a massive 167 bounces which, not surprisingly, is an AFL record.

He also led the league in 2010 (85 bounces) and 2013 (77 bounces).

The records don’t stop there - In 2009 Shaw had the highest amount of bounces in a game with 19 against Sydney in round 21. That game he had four more bounces than he had disposals.

Shaw has had 4+ bounces in 41 per cent of his matches which is a considerably higher percentage than any player in the history of the game.

He also holds the current active streak of 2+ bounces in consecutive games with nine (round 15 - round 23, 2015) and has the highest ever 2+ bounce streak with 30 (round 10, 2009 - round 16, 2010).

Shaw is one of the favourites to take home the 2015 Kevin Sheedy Medal on Saturday night - Who knows if his bouncing expertise will help his chances?
