The GIANTS have received a clean bill of health out of Saturday’s AFL and NEAFL clashes, while defender Zac Williams is eyeing off a return to the field in the coming weeks.
Toby Greene (foot) returned to AFL action on Saturday for the first time since round five, while Brett Deledio (hamstring/calf) and Daniel Lloyd (knee) made successful returns in the NEAFL.
“We were really happy with how all three of them got through and performed as well,” said GIANTS Head of Athletic Performance David Joyce.
“We don’t want them to just return to playing, we want them to return to performing, and we were really pleased with all three of them.”
Speedy half-back flanker Williams is on the comeback trail from a ruptured achilles he sustained during the pre-season and continues to progress in his bid to return to the field before the end of the season.
“It’s a bit of an unusual one with Zac because there’s not that many precedents in world sport for a young guy - 22 years of age - to undergo an achilles reconstruction,” Joyce said.
“We couldn’t be happier with how he is. He was sprinting last week, got to the high-20km/hour - 28km/hour I think it was - which is exceptional.
“We’re looking at him integrating into training in the coming weeks and hopefully we see him playing for us in a short space of time as well.”
Matt de Boer (ankle) and Harry Perryman (hamstring) will miss at least the next fortnight, while forward Jon Patton underwent a knee reconstruction on Tuesday.
