Greater Western Sydney GIANTS small forward Gerard Ugle will play his first match for the season against Geelong at ŠKODA Stadium this Saturday.

Ugle played one game for the GIANTS in 2012, and has been in strong form for the UWS GIANTS in the NEAFL.

The 20 year-old is one of four players to come into the GIANTS side along with experienced defender Stephen Gilham, number three draft pick Lachie Plowman and ruckman Dean Brogan.

Ugle replaces Nathan Wilson who goes out of the side with a calf injury, while Aidan Corr, Matt Buntine and Setanta O'hAilpin have been omitted.

Head Coach Kevin Sheedy said Ugle deserved his promotion after good form in the NEAFL.

"He's been playing consistently good footy. He’s a live wire and it's good to give him another chance and you have to reward these boys who play well in the reserves," said Sheedy.

"We’ve freshened the team up making four changes and I think we need to do that consistently this year with this young group.

"We’ll bring in Gilham who’s very experienced and Lachie Plowman who's a first year player, but he's very strong and I’d like to build that kind of player into the team.

"Dean Brogan also returns and his experience will be very valuable and we need that in our side.

"Geelong are one of the top sides and they have a lot of experienced players. When we played them last year we were level at half time and I’d love to be in that position again on the weekend," he said.

Saturday's game between the GIANTS and Geelong will be the Inaugural Tribute to Farmers Match, recognising the contribution made by farmers to Australia.

The GIANTS are planning a number of activities for fans as part of the match at ŠKODA Stadium at Sydney Olympic Park, starting at 1.40pm.

These include mechanical bull riding, milking and tractor displays and demonstrations, a kids petting zoo and pony rides, on field entertainment of a whip cracking show and line dancing, plus an extended kick to kick with live music, player interviews and an autograph signing session after the game.
