Young GIANTS defender Caleb Marchbank will undergo a shoulder reconstruction this week.
Marchbank, 19, suffered an anterior shoulder dislocation playing in the NEAFL in round 16.
GIANTS' Head of Athletic Performance David Joyce said surgery will see Marchbank sidelined for the rest of the season.
“After extensive consultation over the last week between our medical team and specialists, a decision has been made for Caleb to have a shoulder reconstruction,” Joyce said.
“This is disappointing news for a young player like Caleb but with his long term welfare in mind, this is the best course of action to take.
“It’s been a difficult season for Caleb but we’re confident he’ll make a full recovery in a matter of months."
