South Australian Harry Miell desperately wants to become a senior AFL coach and he’s willing to do whatever it takes to turn his dream into a reality.
The passionate 16-year-old will be the first to admit his journey into the elite coaching ranks has – to this point - been far from conventional.
As you may remember, Harry contacted the GIANTS last year asking for help with a school assignment which required students to learn more about their dream profession.
Intrigued by the project and keen to help, GIANTS coach Leon Cameron rang Harry to offer his support.
The pair also met in person a few weeks later when the GIANTS played Port Adelaide and it was no surprise that Harry nailed his big assignment.
Now, six months on, Harry is back and this time he flew all the way to Sydney for an exclusive chat with another one of his coaching idols, Luke Power.
“Leon was fantastic when I met him and he said to get in contact if I ever need more coaching advice,” Harry said.
“I’ve always wanted to come and see where the GIANTS train and getting to speak with Luke Power was awesome.
“He talked about needing a good support structure and also why he is passionate about coaching.
“It was crazy. He offered to visit my club in Adelaide and help run a session which the boys back home will love.”
Harry is currently head coach of Glenelg Under-13s and Lockleys Under-11s.
He is also undertaking a Level One Coaching Course this season.
