Best Game
Ward had a number of standout performances in 2016, earning three votes from the umpires on two occasions while polling a total of 12 Brownlow votes.
The GIANTS’ co-captain was outstanding in the club’s 79-point-win over Brisbane collecting 31 possessions in wet conditions, winning five hitouts, nine clearances, nine inside 50’s and kicking three goals.
However, his best game came in the round 12 Sydney Derby where, despite missing out on the Brett Kirk Medal, he led the GIANTS to a season defining win over the Swans.
The umpires awarded Ward three Brownlow Medal votes after he gathering 25 disposals, laid seven tackles and setting up two crucial goals in front of a packed Spotless Stadium.
GIANT Moment
Ward had some outstanding moments in 2016 but his GIANT Moment came in the round nine win over the Western Bulldogs at Spotless Stadium.
Midway through the second quarter Ward pounced on a loose ball from a centre bounce.
Anticipating a bump from Bulldogs defender Shane Biggs, Ward took the contact with his left shoulder before spinning and delivering a clean handball to Rhys Palmer.
Palmer then released the run of Tom Scully who kicked truly from 40 metres out.

Looking to 2017
Ward has been one of the GIANTS’ most consistent performers since day one and it’s hard to see that changing in 2017.
The co-captain will also have the extra motivation of the way his 2016 season ended.
Ward played no further part in the Preliminary Final after suffering a sickening knock to the head early in the second term.
The GIANTS were in front at the time and Ward was beginning to influence the contest when the collision took place.
The 26-year-old - who signed a five-year contract extension in March – won’t let the knock change the way he plays.
Expect to see Ward with his head over the ball, ready to win contested possessions again in 2017.
