The Greater Western Sydney GIANTS are pleased to announce Wayne Campbell has been appointed as General Manager Football Operations.

Campbell, 43, today resigned from his role as AFL National Head of Umpiring to take up the position vacated by Graeme Allan.

Campbell played 297 games for Richmond over 15 seasons, captaining the club for four seasons and winning four Jack Dyer Medals as the Tigers Best and Fairest player.

After finishing his playing career in 2005, Campbell worked in a range of off-field roles at the Western Bulldogs and Richmond before being appointed as AFL National Head of Umpiring in January 2014.

Campbell beat a strong list of candidates for the position with the GIANTS’ Board endorsing his appointment as General Manager Football Operations. 

GIANTS Chief Executive Officer David Matthews has welcomed Campbell to the club. 

“Wayne is highly regarded person in the football industry and brings a vast range of experience to this role,” Mr Matthews said.

“We’re delighted that Wayne can see the exciting opportunities this role brings as we continue to build the AFL’s newest club in Western Sydney and Canberra.

“Wayne steps into this role at a really exciting time for the GIANTS with a talented playing list, rapidly growing fan base and strong corporate support from a range of local and international partners.

Campbell said he’s excited to be joining the AFL’s youngest club.

“I’ve been really impressed with the GIANTS over recent years and I’m looking forward to the challenge of helping the club continue to grow,” Campbell said.

“With state of the art facilities and a driven young team playing an exciting brand of football under Leon Cameron, I believe the GIANTS are well positioned to flourish both on and off the field.”

Campbell will officially start with the GIANTS on Thursday March 31 while Graeme Allan will remain at the club until the end of April.
