Before you head to Sydney Derby IX at the SCG this Saturday, read some of the key stats which could influence the game.
While Sydney may hold a 7-1 lead over the GIANTS in head-to-head matches many believe this clash could go either way.
Both sides are coming off strong wins and have had six days to prepare for Saturday’s game.
When the teams last met officially in Round 21 last season it was the Swans who dominated, notching 29 more inside-50s and 19 more scoring shots.
The in-form Kurt Tippett kicked five goals and Josh Kennedy was best on ground with 35 disposals and two goals.
Kennedy will no doubt receive close attention from GIANTS mids after polling an incredible 12 Brownlow votes from five Sydney derbies, getting the maximum three votes on four occasions.
But that was then and this is now.
A lot has changed in the last six months with the GIANTS boosted by key players returning from injury such as Phil Davis, Shane Mumford and Dylan Shiel.
It might not have been for four points but the most recent clash between the GIANTS and Swans was in Round 2 of the NAB Challenge last month.
The GIANTS won that match by 34 points and played some electric football, taking on opponents and running in waves from defence.
It was also the first time we saw new recruit Steve Johnson in GIANTS colours who has since added another element to the GIANTS’ forward line.
Johnson has averaged 23 disposals, three tackles and two goals in both of his matches so far this season.
Another GIANT in exceptional form is wingman Tom Scully who has taken his game to another level in 2016.
Scully is currently leading the club’s disposal count (59) and sets the benchmark for two-way running when the opposition have the ball.
Last week against Geelong Scully had 32 touches, nine marks, five tackles and kicked a goal.
Many believe the battle of the match will be Lance Franklin and Phil Davis going head-to-head as they usually do.
Davis had a game-high eight one-percenters when the two sides met in the NAB Challenge last month and the GIANTS co-captain is averaging seven per match so far in 2016.
On the other side of the coin Lance Franklin is also in great form, averaging four goals per game this season.
The GIANTS and Swans play at the SCG this Saturday from 4.35pm. Tickets available through Ticketek.
