The GIANTS have strengthened their coaching staff by appointing Damian Truslove as a Development Coach.
Truslove joins the GIANTS after spending the last four seasons in development roles at Carlton and Richmond working in their VFL programs.
The 42-year old will also oversee the midfield group in the NEAFL under Brad Miller who led the GIANTS to their first NEAFL premiership this year.
Truslove said he’s excited to be joining the GIANTS coaching staff.
“It’s a great opportunity to be coming to a progressive club that’s in a great position like the GIANTS,” said Truslove.
“My main role will be to up-skill the younger players as quickly as possible to get them to AFL level, as well as work with the more senior players on any areas for development they might have.
“I’ve got a real passion for craft coaching such as identifying any RFI’s (Room For Improvement) that players may need to work on. Bio-mechanics and skill acquisition are big parts of that so I’ll be using vision and different methods on the ground to try and up-skill the players as quickly as I can.
“The list is a great mix of good senior players and exciting youth coming through so if I can help any of those players I certainly will as it’s important to get them coming through as quickly as possible to AFL level.”
GIANTS Head of Development and Welfare Brett Hand said Truslove’s expertise will be invaluable to the club.
“We’ve been one short in our development program working with the NEAFL side over the last couple of years, so it’s great to have another coach come onboard and work really closely with the AFL coaches to ensure the entire playing group is getting the same messages,” said Hand.
“We want your younger players to step up as soon as they can and our role in the development team is to ensure our young boys are ready to play AFL footy as quick as they possibly can, and Damian will play a key role in this."
The GIANTS' 1-4 year players will commence pre-season training next Monday, November 21
