Some of the GIANTS Academy’s top draft prospects have spent a week as GIANTS players, with their week culminating by playing for the WSU GIANTS on the weekend.
For the third time this season Henty defender Harrison Macreadie, Gol Gol midfielder Kobe Mutch and Albury forward Zach Sproule spent a full week at the club living and training like GIANTS.
The trio, who are part of the NAB AFL Academy, spent a week in December and a week in January at the GIANTS experiencing part of the club’s gruelling pre-season.
This time they were all back during their school holidays, seeing what it’s like in a game week as they prepared to line up for the WSU GIANTS against Southport at Spotless Stadium on Saturday.
This visit was for GIANTS Academy players from southern NSW who don’t get a lot of opportunity to visit the club or play NEAFL football for the GIANTS with school and state football taking up much of their year.
Macreadie spends time every week at the club after relocating to Sydney to finish his Year 12 studies.
There was also a new face in the mix with Collingullie midfielder Harry Perryman also spending some time at the club fresh off the back of being named the Allies’ MVP and the recent NAB AFL Under-18 National Championships.
Both Perryman and Mutch were also named in the 2016 Under-18 All Australian team.
Saturday’s NEAFL match saw a host of Academy players pull on the GIANTS jumper with bottom-aged players Charlie Spargo and Jarrod Brander training with the club on Friday and playing for the WSU GIANTS on Saturday.
Other Academy players who have regularly played for the WSU GIANTS this season include Connor Byrne, Mitch Maguire, Connor Owen-Auburn and Brandon Clark.
