Queanbeyan midfielder Hannah Dunn has been brought into the GIANTS side for the club’s first ever NAB AFL Women’s match this Saturday against Adelaide.
Dunn was not part of the GIANTS' original 28-player squad but has been training with the club as a top-up player throughout pre-season. She was listed as an emergency when the team was named on Thursday night.
The 25-year old will replace marquee player Emma Swanson who’s been withdrawn from the team due to a minor hamstring injury.
Dunn is a member of the GIANTS Women’s Academy and was part of the GIANTS' intra-club match a few weeks ago..
In 2016, she became the first female to play 100 games for Queanbeyan.
GIANTS AFLW coach Tim Schmidt has thrown his support behind Dunn.
“It’s obviously disappointing to lose Emma Swanson for such a big game for the club but Hannah Dunn has impressed all of us in her time with the team,” said Schmidt.
“We’re confident that Hannah’s up to whatever role we ask of her this weekend.
“It’s going to be a tough game against the Crows on the road, but the girls have trained well and are prepared for the challenges that will be thrown at us.”
The GIANTS take on the Adelaide Crows at Thebarton Oval in Adelaide at 5:05pm AEDT with live coverage on Fox Footy.
