Four GIANTS have been recognized for their outstanding NAB AFL Women’s seasons, being selected in the 40-player Virgin Australia All Australian Squad.
Jessica Dal Pos, Emma Swanson, Renee Tomkins and Erin McKinnon were all named in the squad on Thursday.
Dal Pos was a standout in the GIANTS midfield throughout the inaugural season, averaging 13.9 disposals and 7.4 contested possessions per game.
The priority selection from Victoria proved to be one of the toughest contested competitors in the game, finishing second in the competition for tackles (49) and third in clearances (29).
Fellow midfielder Emma Swanson missed the opening two games of the season but soon made up for lost time with a string of impressive performances.
The West Australian marquee signing finished 11th in the competition for disposals per game with an average of 16 touches and 2.6 rebounds per game.
Local key defender Renee Tomkins, from Penrith in Western Sydney, was a rock down back for the GIANTS, consistently beating her far more experienced opponents.
The former W-League footballer led the competition for one per-centers (33) and averaged 3.9 contested possessions per match.
Ruck Erin McKinnon quickly proved to be one of the competition’s brightest prospects and showed experience beyond her years, despite being the youngest player in the AFLW.
After playing reduced game time in the opening match of the season, the Sydneysider - and tallest player in the competition - won 154 hitouts to finish second behind Collingwood’s Emma King.
The final team of 22 players will be announced at The W Awards in Melbourne on Tuesday, March 28.
18-year-old McKinnon will be in for a nervous night, as she is also one of two GIANTS nominated for the NAB AFLW Rising Star.
