Four GIANTS will be unavailable for selection ahead of the GIANTS’ season opener against the Crows at Adelaide Oval on Sunday.
As previously reported, midfielders Stephen Coniglio, Brett Deledio and Matt de Boer will all miss the round one clash, along with defender Aidan Corr.
Both Coniglio (ankle) and Corr (hand) injured themselves in the club’s final JLT Community Series match at UNSW Canberra Oval a fortnight ago.
Coniglio’s syndesmosis injury is expected to keep him sidelined for at least the first month of the season while a timeline for Corr is harder to determine.
The 22-year old didn’t break a bone, but suffered an unusual injury to the capsule at the base of his hand.
He has spent the past week in a splint and a more accurate timeline for a return to the field is expected next week.
Recruits Matt de Boer (hamstring) and Brett Deledio (calf) are continuing along with their rehab with de Boer expected to return in the next 2-3 weeks.
Coach Leon Cameron said a definitive date on Deledio’s first appearance for the club was difficult to set.
"We are going to be extra cautious on it. It is really minor but because of his history we'd be silly to rush it,” Cameron recently told Fox Footy.
"I can't comment and say that it's going to be three weeks if it turns out to be two, or four weeks if it turns out to be five. We're working through that at the moment.
"It's really hard to say what the exact timeline is ... but he could play in the early parts (of the season).
"He could play in round three or four – it all depends on whether or not we have another setback in his rehab.”
The GIANTS take on the Crows in Adelaide on Sunday while the GIANTS Reserves play a NEAFL trial match against Sydney University on Saturday.
