The Sydney Derby XIII is all about the battle and the rivalry but that’s only on the field as off the field the GIANTS and Swans come together to support White Ribbon.
The White Ribbon Cup was launched at the inaugural Sydney Derby in round one, 2012 with the GIANTS currently holding the Cup after taking the points in round five earlier this season.
The GIANTS have been a strong supporter of White Ribbon since the club’s inception and they are a premium community partner of the club.
GIANTS co-captains Callan Ward and Phil Davis are passionate ambassadors for White Ribbon in supporting Australia’s only national, male led campaign to end violence against women.
The winning captain will be presented with the White Ribbon Cup following Saturday’s game with the player judged best on ground to receive the Brett Kirk Medal.
One woman a week in Australia is killed as a result of intimate partner violence, one in five Australian women experience harassment in the workplace and one in five women over the age of 18 will be stalked in their lifetime.
The White Ribbon campaign works through primary prevention initiatives including awareness and education raising with schools, work places and across the broader community.
Their vision is to have all women live in safety free from all forms of men’s violence.
In just a couple of weeks White Ribbon will run their annual White Ribbon Night which is a community event where you are encouraged to invite your neighbour over for a night in and get to know each other.
Extend a hand to your next door neighbour and get to know each other, you never know when you may need to call on them.
Get involved in White Ribbon Night on July 28 and make sure you help the cause and purchase a white ribbon from volunteers outside Spotless Stadium on Saturday night.
Our match day partner Toyo Tires will again support White Ribbon by making a $250 contribution for every goal scored by both the GIANTS and Swans on the day.
Be there as the GIANTS take on cross-town rivals the Swans in the latest instalment in the Sydney Derby in a blockbuster Saturday night clash at Spotless Stadium.
