Young defender Jeremy Finlayson has signed a one-year contract extension that will see him remain at the GIANTS until at least the end of the 2018 season.

A product of the GIANTS Academy, Finlayson is entering his third season at the GIANTS after being selected with pick 85 in the 2014 NAB AFL Draft.

The 21-year-old from Culcairn was a key member of the GIANTS 2016 NEAFL Premiership team and won the club’s NEAFL development award after a standout season across halfback. 

Despite not making his AFL debut yet, Finlayson has played two pre-season games for the GIANTS in 2016 and 2017.

His commitment to the club follows the recent re-signings of team-mates Jon Patton, Zac Williams, Adam Tomlinson and Matthew Flynn.

Finlayson said he’s excited to remain a GIANT.

“I came up here as a young boy and this is my third year now and I really love the club,” Finlayson said. 

“My first two pre-season were pretty interrupted with injury but now I’ve had a pretty solid pre-season and getting that opportunity has given me more belief. 

“I can’t wait to see what the future holds here.” 

GIANTS General Manager Football Wayne Campbell said Finlayson’s extension is another strong endorsement of the club. 

“Jeremy has shown a great deal of improvement over the past 12 months and we’re pleased that he has agreed to extend his contract,” Campbell said. 

“We’re really proud that 32% of our list comes from NSW and the ACT, and Jeremy is the third GIANTS Academy product to re-commit to the club this year.

“This is not only a great indication of the talent we’re developing in NSW, but of the culture we are building at the club.”
