In the lead up to the GIANTS' clash with St Kilda at Spotless Stadium, we’ve examined some of the key statistical components that could influence the match.

Great Griffen – Relishing his new role across half back, GIANTS veteran Ryan Griffen has been enjoying some good form over the last month. Griffen has assumed a play-making role in defence, adding experience and run to the club’s young backline. Griffen has been averaging 25 disposals and eight marks since making the move from the midfield.

Home Town Heroes – The GIANTS return to Spotless Stadium on Sunday after a narrow defeat against Richmond but the club will take confidence out of their home-track record. The GIANTS have won three out of their last four matches at the ground, including victories over reigning premiers Hawthorn, Adelaide and Brisbane. The Saints are yet to play at Spotless Stadium.

Steely Resolve – PM Capital GIANTS Academy graduate Jack Steele has only played two games in the AFL but he’s fast establishing himself as an elite tackler. Steele is averaging eight tackles per game along with 15 disposals. Steele is in good company through the midfield when it comes to tackling with Callan Ward, Adam Treloar and Devon Smith all averaging five per game.

Big Bouncers - The GIANTS are leading the bounce count in the AFL with 189 so far this season, well ahead of second placed Hawthorn on 158. St Kilda are ranked third in the competition with 145. Doing most of the damage is defender Heath Shaw (44 bounces) while Dylan Shiel, Ryan Griffen, Nick Haynes and Adam Treloar are also ranked in the top 20.

Sinful Saints  – No team has given away more free kicks than St Kilda this season. The Saints average 20 infringements per game, compared to the equal 10th ranked GIANTS who give away 17. Saints ruckman Billy Longer and midfielder David Armitage are the main offenders.

Last Time They Met – Last time these sides met was Round 1, 2015 and it was the GIANTS who ran out nine-point winners at Etihad Stadium. Midfielder Adam Treloar accumulated 32 disposals while Jeremy Cameron kicked four goals.
