GIANTS Chief Executive David Matthews has joined other CEOs from the sports and business world to launch the Vinnies CEO Sleepout.

The Vinnies CEO Sleepout is a chance for CEOs to get a glimpse of the struggles that many people experiencing homelessness go through.

CEOs spend the night sleeping in the cold, winter weather, learning about the support services Vinnies offers and hearing first hand from people who have experienced difficulties that led to homelessness.

Preparing for his second CEO Sleepout, Mr Matthews joined NRL boss Todd Greenberg, Sam Graham from AFL NSW and Cricket NSW’s Andrew Jones at the SCG to launch the 2017 sleepout.

Mr Matthews said the unique event is one he’s proud to be involved in.

“This is an excellent event that highlights the struggles that many people in our society go through,” Mr Matthews said.

“This is a great cause and one that resonates with the community work the GIANTS do across Western Sydney and the ACT.

“Our GIANTS family really got behind this cause last year and I’m looking forward to that continuing in 2017.”

Jack de Groot, CEO St Vincent de Paul Society NSW said: “It’s great to see these major codes setting aside their differences and getting on with the business of supporting those in need and raising significant funds for our services.”

“Our CEO Sleepout is in its 12th year now and building on the successes of previous years, we’ve set our fundraising target at $2.3 million. The vital funds will be used to support our frontline services including the Mathew Talbot Hostel in Woolloomooloo.”

“The theme this year is Homelessness Doesn’t Have a Postcode because at Vinnies we know first-hand that no matter what suburb or town you live in, there will be people experiencing homelessness or at risk.”

The CEO Sleepout will take place on Thursday, June 22.
