Television, print, radio and web media flocked to the club for an open media session, while Stephen Coniglio and Zac Williams – who is hoping to play his first AFL game for the season after overcoming a ruptured Achilles tendon – fronted up for all-in press conferences.

The awards season kicked off for the AFL, with the Virgin Australia All Australian Awards Night at the Palais Theatre in Melbourne.

GIANTS Lachie Whitfield and Callan Ward were both nominated in the initial squad of 40 players.

While both deserving of the honour, it was Whitfield’s stunning transition to defence acknowledged with his first selection in the final team of 22.
