The Western Sydney University’s Health and Physical Education (HPE) and Human Movement research teams are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated doctoral candidate to undertake a project jointly funded by the Greater Western Sydney GIANTS Football Club, Western Sydney University and SKINS.
The project will explore aspects of talent identification including performance tests, anthropometric assessment and visual perception and the decision making abilities of potential AFL players.
The doctoral candidature, under the supervision of Dr Kylie Steel and John Quinn will specifically research the visual perceptual abilities of potential Australian Rules Football players, and how this informs their game decision making process.
In addition, the successful candidate will be embedded as a member of the GWS GIANTS Academy Program within the GWS GIANTS football department.
The successful applicant will be expected to fulfil all requirements of Higher Degree Research at Western Sydney University, and in conjunction, provide world-class sports science support as a member of the GIANTS’ Academy Program.
The project will be carried out at the GWS GIANTS' Training Facility (Sydney Olympic Park), GWS Academy Centre at Blacktown, and the University’s Penrith campus.
