Nothing in life is certain except for death, taxes and Tom Scully winning the GIANTS’ 3km time trial.
The 26-year-old running machine again took line honours in the endurance run at the WestConnex Centre as the GIANTS returned to the training track for the first time in 2018.
Scully had ended 2017 on a high by winning the annual McConnell Cup in late December despite a significant handicap and continued where he left off on Monday morning.
“He’s a freak,” teammate Matt de Boer said after getting off the training track.
“Most of the boys ran good times and presented well.”
“I was with Stephen Coniglio and we were just pushing each other every lap so I’m happy with my time.”
De Boer, who is in his second pre-season at the GIANTS, finished fifth behind Scully, Adam Tomlinson, Lachie Whitfield and Tim Taranto.

The 153-gamer said Taranto’s efforts on day one stood out with the 2017 Rising Star nominee returning to the club from the festive break in great shape.
De Boer also had high praise for fellow Claremont product Zac Langdon who finished eighth in the time trial.
“I trained with him over the break and I think he improved on his time as well, I think he’ll be one to watch,” he said.
“He’s a really good kid, asking lots of questions and he’s really trying to grow and improve as much as he can.”
Western Sydney local Nick Shipley showed off his running prowess, finishing seventh just ahead of fellow draftee Langdon while Sam Reid and key defender Lachie Keeffe rounded out the top ten.
