2012 – First Game
Deep inside the bowels of ANZ Stadium Coniglio warms up alongside co-captain Callan Ward before his and the GIANTS’ AFL debut. Coniglio would collect 17 disposals as the eyes of the AFL world were firmly fixed on the birth of the competition’s newest club.
2014 – Multicultural Ambassador
Coniglio fronts the media in early 2014 after being announced as the GIANTS’ AFL Multicultural ambassador. Coniglio is of Italian heritage with his Italian father and English mother migrating to Australia in the 1960’s. In his role as Multicultural Ambassador the midfielder mentors young footballers in the culturally diverse landscape of Western Sydney.
2015 – Long Sleeve Stephen
We know there are quite a few long sleeve guernsey enthusiasts in the Orange Army, so this one is for them. Coniglio is one of few GIANTS to wear a long sleeves guernseys during a game with this photo from the GIANTS’ round four, 2015 win over Gold Coast in Canberra. The game was also of significance for the club with the match played on the 100th anniversary of ANZAC Day and the GIANTS wearing a unique jumper commemorating the landings at ANZAC Cove in Turkey. one of the last times he’s been photographed playing in one. 2016 – The First Final
Coniglio gets a kick away during the GIANTS’ first-ever final against the Swans in 2016. Coniglio collected 26 disposals and kicked a goal as the GIANTS won the Qualifying Final by 36 points. Coniglio had a sensational 2016 season finishing with a club-high 17 votes in the Brownlow Medal.
2017 – Mask On
After an ankle injury scuppered the start of his 2017 campaign, Coniglio returned in round 7 with an impressive performance against St Kilda and a new goal celebration. An ardent supporter of Italian football club Juventus, Coniglio was inspired by Paulo Dybala’s iconic ‘mask’ celebration. While some have mistaken it for a ‘shoosh’ towards opposition supporters, the ‘mask’ is anything but, as the Argentine sticker explains: “Dybalamask is really simple: it's the mask of a gladiator! When we struggle, sometimes we must wear our warrior mask to be stronger, without losing our smile and kindness.”
